Heading up to Atikokan next thursday. Renting a canoe from Canoe Canada and having them drop us at Stanton Bay, then on to Dore, Twin, down the Deux Riviere (if passable) then to Ram, Antoine, Lonely, Draper, Eliz, Jesse, Maria and out through Nym. 7 days.
Anyone have any comments, suggestions? If the Deux is not passable, we will go back out through Dore and maybe go to Buckingham and fool around for a couple of days and out through French Lake at the campground. Any other ideas for travel if we cannot get down the Deux? We have never been to Rawn or Buckingham is why we are considering that area. Have been down through
We are interested in hearing from anyone who has travelled any of these areas recently. Have been down through Bisk, Beg, Bud, Fern et al a few times.
Any thoughts are appreciated.

Hey! mdeljb,
Since no one else has answered here is my take on it.
I bet you can get through the Deux area, but if not I'd make a U-turn and head into Maria & Jesse and loop back up to Nym. Good fishing and pretty lakes!

Thanks fishguts. I know that route well and it is good. Just looking for new ideas. You may like this, providing we can make it down the Deux, we are thinking about going into Ram, then Antoine then trying an old, un-marked portage between Antoine, un-named lakes and Lonely rather than going out of Antoine to Sturgeon and around to Lonely. Jim at Canoe Canada says we may be the first to go through those un-named lakes in many years.
Thanks for responding. Sometimes I wonder if anyone on these blogs go into the northern parts of Quetico. It has been my favorite area. I have always gone in through Atikokan. I guess maybe I don't know what I am missing in the southern end, but I get the feeling that the closer you get to the BWCA, the more used it gets.

We took the Nym to Prairie Portage trip back in 93.....down the Deux, a very nice trip! We have found crowds at the entry areas, but once you get into the center of Quetico there are few people. We entered through Lac Lacroix this year and saw no one for 6 days after leaving McAree.......Wonderful! Good Luck! that route sounds very interesting.
