Interested in Quetico Park? there is a public comment period, open now through October 15, 2010 regarding management options the Park is considering.
Please read carefully, and send your responses before the deadline. They are considering some rather drastic changes to how Quetico is managed. Some of the changes are good. The status quo is good in many ways, but let your voice be heard. If you don't respond, you have no room to gripe later.

I sent in my survey, but I think they already have their minds made up. Because I saw them GPS marking Campsites on Pickerel and Russell lakes. I hope I am wrong!!! Anthony

I saw the same thing on McDougall. Plan to camp on designated sites in the future.

Many of the "locals" on the north side of the park think Robin's ultimate goal is to eliminate all fishing (already got the live bait ban)too. Would be a lesser place if you couldn't travel and camp where you wanted and catch a few fish. I also think the "comments" period is more of a requirement than a genuine interest to see what users want and act accordingly.

While what has been posted may be true, I believe it is important for them to hear that if these proposed changes are enacted that use and income associated with use will decline. While environmentalists may applaud this, it can't be good for the outfitters, who are an important voice, and have a vested interest in the outcome.

I hope everyone who cares about Q will take a little time to send their comments by the October 15 deadline. If they don't hear from us we have no basis to argue/complain about the outcome.

I have a hard time imagining that sport fishing will ever be banned in Quetico. Banning live bait was a good idea, especially with the number of invasives that can be brought into the area.

I do see a time, however, when all outfitting, guiding, etc. will be based in the Atikokan area, using Canadian businesses.
