Looking to do an Ontario fly-in trip in two summers. In the preliminary planning stages. Looking at 5-6 days, 4 guys, Cabin rental, flying out of either Fort Frances (preferred) or Atikokan. Fishing is the priority. Seems like there are so many lake choices it all depends on where the outfitter flies. Any thoughts on outfitters, sites, etc.?

Thanks,
TG

Ontario is a big province. Have you given any thought to a general area that you'd like to go? What are your fish goals? Cabin? How many people? More information would be helpful.

It's too late for this year, but if you're in the Chicago area or eastern Wisconsin, the the All-Canada Show is held in St. Charles, IL, Milwaukee (Brookfield) and Green Bay. It's sensory overload for people like you looking for a fly-in (or drive-in) outfitter for Ontario. You can sign up for their email reminders so you can attend next year.

2nd the recommendation of the All-Canada Show, a great resource for fly-In fishing trips. For many years my group has used Mattice Lake Outfitters of Armstrong On, 150 miles due north of Thunder Bay on Hwy 599.

We’ve used Northern Wilderness Outfitters in Fort Francis as well as Kashabowie in Atikokan. Both outfitters do a great job. Been on many many trips over a couple decades. We’re flying with Rusty Myers (Fort Francis) on a trip this fall after Labor Day. If you want to travel further north Excellent Adventures does an awesome job also, flying out of the Red Lake area.
You can usually book a trip a couple hundred cheaper after Labor Day, and the later fall trips can be great as the fish are stocking up for the winter.

Spend some time talking with the outfitters… they will quiz you and ask what your objectives are: big fish, lots of fish, multiple species, do you want the task of finding them in big water or want to catch out of a fishbowl?

Some of your decisions will also revolve around the type of plan you choose… you can haul in all your own food and refreshments, or you can choose a plan that has a fully stocked frig. Different outfitters offer different plans.

Yes, sport shows will have many outfitters who cater to fly-ins. I've done five fly-ins in Ontario. With the exception of Cole's lake, you catch a lot of walleyes, but 95% of them are in the 15"-16" range. For me, after catching a 100 of them, the thrill is kind of gone. You sure won't go hungry, but this is the main reason I started going to the BW. I can't even imagine what the price is nowadays!

Fern Duquette at Kashibowie Outposts and Sepawe Air is a dream to work with.
he helped us out with a quetico trip back in 2008 when we went in stanton bay.
highly recommend.

they have outpost cabins a several lakes that they fly people to, also if Mack lake/ Clay Lake is still and EP for Quetico he has picked people up on the canadian side of sag and dropped them on clay.

Try Jeremy at Canoe Canada Outfitters. He has cabins in the White Otter/Turtle River Provincial Park north of Atikokan, and some other cabins as well. He does flyins. I have fished the lakes up there, having paddled the area two years in a row, and can attest to the excellent fishing. Regardless, I hope you have a great trip!

I did a fly-in trip with my dad, son, and uncle this past summer. We went with Nestor Falls Fly-in Outposts (Keeper Lake). I was very impressed with their service and the fishing was spectacular.
