I have never been on Knife Lake.
But i was just talking with an elderly gentleman that was there decades ago.

Is there a high cliff on the south shore with a large crack in it that produces a large icicle that last into late spring or longer?

Cannot confirm the Knife Lake icicle but, I have run across icebergs on lakes well after all other snow has melted.

Ottertrack & Mug lakes.

got into knife a day or 2 after iceout , this piece was at least 3' thick and the length of a canoe. it wouldnt see sunlight until sundown , had a huge pine tree that hung over the water. nice to have ice for some KLC ! 2nd pic , this piece broke off and was floating in the water. (different year) i find most of these spots of ice/snow will be gone 7 to maybe 17 days after ice out depending on weather/temps ? i think the south shore is the area to search-out high hills with tree cover - dips and valleys- feeder creeks , not to say you wouldnt find any on the North shore of a lake. but the south shore with a high backround wont see sun until evening that time of year.
