I'm taking a friend of mine to the Boundary Waters for the first time and he has cold feet about traveling deep into the wilderness. Needless to say, we've got a permit for Kawishiwi lake and we're planning on doing a base camp on or near it.
Will be there the 3rd week of June. Any fishing advice? Lures? Colors? Spots? Happy to catch anything, but walleye would be ideal. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated!
I've caught a number of fish in lakes near there by trolling the shoreline with a Rapala. The water is tannin stained so bright colors are usually (but not always) a good choice. When you and your partner both have fish on at the same time, make note of where that happened and stop there and cast as that is an indication of structure that holds fish. Be prepared to cover quite a bit of water and also be prepared to land a large fish. It happens.
