Sawbill Lake entry point allows overnight paddle only. This entry point is supported by Tofte Ranger Station near the city of Tofte, MN. The distance from ranger station to entry point is 25 miles. Access is a boat landing at Sawbill Lake. This area was affected by blowdown in 1999.

Trip Introduction:
I just returned yesterday from a 7 day, 30 mile solo. It was a great experience and I'd do it again. DETAILS TRIP LOOP: Sawbill - Kelso - Lujenida - Zenith - Fredrick - Wine - Mug - Poe - Louse Lake/River - Bug - Dent - Unnamed Pond - Chase - Mesaba - Hug - Duck - Zenith - Lujenida - Kelso - Sawbill. I rented 16' Prism canoe from Sawbill Outfitters. All other gear I own. I double portaged for safety and ease. Took along 2yo lab (and until she can paddle, cook and set up camp, it's solo tripping) :)

Rating Easy to Moderate.

Day One. Get to EP16 off of the Echo Trail early. The initial portage is long, but well worn and smooth, sloping gently downgrade to the launch area.

Load your canoe and head North. You'll be paddling with the slight current on this narrow winding river. The water is clear and make sure to tell the bowperson to watch for looming rocks!
